About

This is an early piece in a personal series motivated by a very prolonged journey through the US immigration system. This simple early piece explored conveying a want for inclusion in the dream of freedom symbolized by the artist’s hand juxtaposed with the iconic statue. The disembodied hand is held aloft, drawing attention as it tries to attach awkwardly to the body below it. Photographic slides were used to a create Polaroid emulsion lifts which were then applied to plexiglass. Emulsion lifts are incredibly delicate skins that tear extremely easily, but are stable once adhered.
